BEIJING, September 25, 2025 – The workshop "China's Sustainable Development Agenda: Opportunities for Russian Businesses" was organized in Moscow today by Gazprombank, with the support of strategic partner – China’s leading ESG rating agency, China Chengxin Green Finance Technology (Beijing) Ltd. (CCXGF), with whom Gazprombank signed a cooperation agreement in the field of sustainable development and green finance on September 2, 2025. Alex Cui, Marketing Director of CCXGF was invited and delivered a keynote speech at the event.
In recent years, trade and economic relations between Russia and China have reached a qualitatively new level of development, with sustainability agenda gaining momentum within this framework. Given the strong interest among Russian businesses in opportunities in the Chinese market, Gazprombank, in collaboration with CCXGF, conducted a dedicated research and prepared a detailed overview of China's ESG regulation and the benefits for organizations that adhere to responsible business practices and information transparency.
The event brought together key figures including Evgeniy Grankin, Director of the Macroeconomic Analysis Center; Natalia Zhulina, Head of Sustainability Advisory Center; Kseniya Kuznetsova, Managing Director of Debt Capital Markets at Gazprombank, alongside ESG leaders from major Russian corporations such as SIBUR and EN+ Group. Together, they explored market access opportunities and implementation pathways within China's evolving ESG landscape.
A highlight of the event was the official launch of a joint research report delivered by Ms. Natalia Zhulina. This report represents the first comprehensive guide co-authored with a Russian institution that systematically maps China's sustainable development regulatory framework, enforcement practices, and market opportunities. It provides a detailed analysis of the policy drivers behind China's "Dual Carbon" goals, key regulatory bodies and their requirements, and critically examines the ESG thresholds and certification standards for product imports, offering Russian businesses a clear action plan for engaging with the Chinese market.
Next up, Alex Cui delivered his presentation as a strategic roadmap for Russian enterprises in his keynote speech, "Unlocking Opportunities in China's ESG Market: What Russian Companies Need to Know." From the unique perspective of a Chinese ESG rating agency, he analyzed the growing demand in China for transparent and sustainable supply chains, emphasizing that enhancing ESG performance is essential for integrating into Chinese industrial chains and gaining both government incentives and market recognition. Alex further illustrated the tangible business value and market recognition achievable through ESG by sharing successful case studies of CCXGF's collaborations with leading Russian entities.
This event is an important professional milestone between the two countries in the field of sustainable development and marks the beginning of an open dialogue between Russian companies and leading Chinese ESG rating agencies regarding independent performance assessments and ESG ratings, verification of responsible financing instruments, sustainable development projects, independent evaluation of non-financial reporting, as well as the development of the carbon unit market in Russia, China, and BRICS countries.
